#3 Choose the Design Bases for Your Business Cards

Now comes the fun part! Once you're ready to dive into the details, here are some design elements that you should turn your attention to get the best business card for your business.

Full Color vs. One or Two Color Printing

For large orders on a budget, you can skip the color mode and print in one or two colors for less money - although this will likely only help you with orders of 500 or more. With business cards typically being digitally printed these days, multiple colors are no longer the cost they used to be.

Font

Choosing the right font is key to giving your professional business card the right feel. Remember these guidelines:

  • Make sure you choose at least font size 8 so that the font is legible.
  • Serif fonts tend to feel more classic, and sans-serif fonts feel more modern.

Use decorative or cursive fonts sparingly and only for emphasis; you don't want to compromise legibility with excellent typography.

A designer should embed the fonts in the file rather than outline the text. This means that your design produces higher-quality prints and can be adapted in the future if something changes in your company or new employees are added.

You should check with your designer about the licenses for the font. Some fonts are free, but purchased fonts often have limitations, so it is essential to check the license.
