Basic Sticker Design and Printing Tips

Stickers have various purposes, whether for personal or business. With stickers in Singapore, you can make great decorations, promote your business, or even promote a campaign.

But of course, you need to make sure that the stickers you print have a great design and are printed in high quality.

If this is your first time making your own stickers, this article should help you with some useful tips that you must keep in mind.

1. Keep it simple

When it comes to the ideation process of making a sticker, it is much better to keep the idea simple. Visually, a sticker shouldn't have a complicated design. After all, it is small, so the more elements you incorporate into the design, the more crowded it gets. When it is too stuffy, it will be difficult for people to understand the message that should be delivered with the design.

2. Make a unique shape

Most stickers are either round or square. But nobody said you cannot make other types of sticker shapes. As long as you have the creativity to think about it, you can make any sticker design come true. Uniquely shaped stickers can stand out more and grab the attention of people much easier than ones with regular designs.

3. Less is more

This is quite similar to the first tip. To make your sticker stand out, it does not mean that you have to include too many details. Since people tend to only take a look at stickers for a second or two, it is better if the details are simple and easy to digest.

4. Use brand colour

If you are using your stickers to promote a business, then you have to use your brand colour for your sticker. This helps you to raise brand awareness and strengthen your branding in the market. When people see the colours, they should be able to associate them with your business. Think about red and yellow for McDonald's.

5. Make sure it is legible

One of the biggest mistakes a sticker design usually has is that the text is difficult to read. It is good to have catchy typography, however, you have to make sure that it is still legible. This includes choosing the right font size as well. Do not make it too small. For sticker design, the bigger is better. So do not be shy and go bold with your design.

6. Design in CMYK

Not many people know that you need to design in CMYK instead of RGB. This is because your stickers will be printed with CMYK colours instead of RGB. If you design in RGB and print in CMYK, then the colour reproduction will not be accurate. In the end, it is more likely that you will get colours that do not look like what you design on the computer.

If you are not very familiar with designing tools, you can get a graphic designer to make your stickers for you. Also, it is much better to have your stickers printed at a professional printing service instead of using home printers.
