Brochure vs. Pamphlets vs. Flyers vs. Leaflets: What’s the Difference
Have you ever gone out and have someone offer you a piece of paper containing a certain amount of information? If such even has happened to you, then you were offered a brochure… Or a pamphlet, a flyer, or a leaflet.
Yes, there are so many kinds of paper used for information to the point where it’s hard to differentiate them. If you are one of the graphic design agencies confused about the term, we are here to help! Here, we will talk about the difference among brochure, pamphlet, flyer, and leaflet.
Brochure vs. Pamphlet
First, let us talk about pamphlets. Pamphlets have a similar purpose with brochures, and that is to give information. However, there are plenty of differences between the two.
When you are handed out a single piece of paper, you are handed out a brochure. Brochure printing is usually made of one paper only, and the paper contains information such as product and service. Brochure is mostly used for selling., and they are folded in different types of folds.
If you are given several pages unbounded, you are given a pamphlet. Pamphlets are mostly used to give information. Although there would be times where pamphlets would be used to sell products or services, the occasion is rare. Pamphlet is mostly used to give information regarding a company, organization, or an event.
Brochure vs. Flyer
Brochure and flyer have the same purpose, which is selling. However, the type of selling they aim for is different. Flyer is meant for a short promotion, while brochure can take several weeks or even months until they are replaced.
Since the flyer is meant for short promotion, it usually uses one paper and has information on both sides. Brochure uses one paper also, but there are occasions where the brochure contains more than one paper.
Another difference is their paper quality. Flyer is usually printed on thick paper or cardstock. Brochure’s paper is not as thick as flyer’s, but they are still pricey since it contains lots of fancy design and sometimes uses several pages.
Brochure vs. Leaflet
Brochures and leaflets are similar to each other. As a matter of fact, they are probably the same. What makes them different is their usage.
Brochure is mostly used for selling. It can provide any kind of information, from the product to the service; however, a brochure’s main purpose is one, and that is to sell something.
Leaflet is used more than just selling. It is used to give actual information regarding things. For example, a leaflet may be used by the government or a non-profit organization. It can also be used to provide information regarding a certain disease and the steps to prevent or cure them.
Another noticeable difference between brochures and leaflets is their quality. Brochures are pretty pricey since they are fancy. Since they are pricey, you don’t see them in public places often. Meanwhile, you can see leaflets in public places. Leaflets can also be low in quality, so don’t be surprised if you see leaflets in black and white.
