Sending mail, signing documents, holding events, and even networking is all done digitally nowadays. One feature that digital cannot fully substitute anytime soon is the business card.

Here are five examples why the traditional business card is still important – and why you should keep a stash in your wallet at all times.

1. Digitally Exchanging Contact Details is Impersonal.

Making genuine links is the aim of networking. It is easy to send contact information via text or email on the spot, but it is also incredibly impersonal. True relationships begin with eye contact and actual dialogue.

Two people with their heads submerged in their phones, clicking away, would have no significant recollection of the experience. After the chat, you can quickly move the details from a business card to your mobile device.

2. They are The Most Powerful Direct Marketing Tools Available.

Email marketing, search engine optimization, and paying media are all good at gaining leads and customers, but they aren't as effective as an in-person encounter secured by a handshake and the exchanging of business cards.

You will meet a new lead or touch at any moment – tradeshows, industry conventions, happy hour, airport lounges – and carrying business cards with you at all times helps guarantee that you never lose out on a crucial business interaction. Keep some in your pockets, wallet, money clip, or laptop bag for the next time you meet a prospect.

3. A Business Card is The First Thing People Notice About The Company.

When you meet someone who might be a wonderful possibility or relation, don't you want him or her to leave with a positive first impression? A memorable business card accomplishes much more than just passing on an email address or phone number.  I don't want my name to be synonymous with the term "cheap" when I make a link using my business card. A department store that wants to make a good first impression does not make a supermarket sign out of cardboard and a Sharpie. When it comes to business cards, I have the same mindset.

Yes, they are more expensive, but consider how much needless costs you should slash in order to devote funds for great business card printing. Hold off on the ping pong table and particularly on the ping pong table.
