The graphic designer's job typically begins with the publisher. The publisher will send their design to the graphic designer and ask for it to be published in a certain way, such as an ebook or a printed brochure.

Once they receive this request from the publisher, they will start working on a mockup. This is where all of the pieces that make up the design are put together into one file so that everything can be seen at once before being sent off to print. A mockup may include text, images, fonts, page layouts and more!

What Is Publishing Design?

Publishing design is a graphic design that can be used for print or online publications.

The publication's content is usually formatted in a linear fashion, with text and images laid out on pages to tell a story. The layout may also include navigation aids such as tables of contents (TOCs) and indexes which help users find the contents of a book or magazine in an easy to read format.

Graphic designers that work in publishing design are responsible for creating eye-catching covers that will entice readers to purchase the publication.

Publishing Designers use a wide range of skills in their work, such as typography, digital and print graphics, colour theory and layout. They also need an eye for composition, camera angles and staging to create dynamic imagery.

This creativity is applied when designing ebooks, books and page layouts that present information that the reader will find engaging.

The graphic designer's role is to turn the written word into a visually interactive experience for readers. Publishers hire graphic designers because they are skilled at using design software such as Adobe InDesign and their creativity to create dynamic layouts that present information in an informative, appealing way that engages the user interface (UI) on screens and print media.
