Tips on How to Draw Characters on Japanese Comic Books! Part One
Drawing may be your strong point, but there are different styles. If you want to take your drawing to the next level and start designing your own manga characters, then there are a few things you should consider. Always take into account the fact that you may have to draw the same character over and over again throughout the pages, so keep the design as simple as you can (avoiding it being too simple too!).
1. Write Everything Down!
This may be useful not only for manga or graphic novels in general, but also could be helpful for everyone who is trying to picture the perfect main character of their story. Creating a character profile is all about taking important decisions about how they will be. Write down every single detail from their personality traits to the clothes and style they will display throughout the whole comic book. Once you have that, then it is time to start those first sketches.
2. First Look on Your Character!
These first sketches may look rough, but they are the first approach to the finale product. Draw them from different angles and different poses, but make sure you have at least one full body sketch and tons of close-up sketches of their face (this will be very helpful to know how their facial expressions will look on the comics later!). Anime characters tend to show their emotions through their expressions, so you could even draw some sketches of them too! The character profile will be needed here, so use it as a guide!
