For most people's goal-setting might make them feel like they are on a treadmill that goes nowhere, but you don't have to be another treadmill runner. Goal-setting criteria like SMART criteria can hinder goal setting; only a tiny minority of the population tend to consider goals as something they must work toward all the time, even if they do not realize it.

Achieving your goals might make you feel like you are on a steep journey that has no end in sight, but if you have an open mind, you will see that it's not a challenge at all but simply a series of steps leading you to a destination you might have never dreamed about before. You can maybe hang some poster printing, bullet points, or anything else you feel will help you achieve your goals. When you can reach one small goal within a day or even a week, you will become aware of how effective goal setting really is. 

Yes, goal setting is essential, but it is also necessary for achieving your ultimate goals. Without motivation, you will not be able to progress as far as you would like to and lose productivity. Without motivation, you will only drift through life aimlessly, never accomplishing any of the things you want to. And ultimately, you will not be happy with your life either. So when you look back at what you have achieved so far, you will realize that goal setting is essential and not just something you do today to get a trophy. It will allow you to develop a productive attitude in the long term.
