But why exactly is branding so important? What does it consist of? 

What Is Branding? 

The concept of branding has been around since 350 BC. The term comes from the word Brandr which means "to burn" in Old Norse. By the 16th century, the word was already widely used by farmers who branded their cows with a hot iron - the ancestor of the logo.    

But nowadays, branding is much more than a simple logo, or even a single visual identity: it is the emotional response that a company will elicit from its customers. 

Your brand depends on how people perceive your business. But branding is a set of actions you take to cultivate that brand. In other words, your brand is just a name, but your branding is an action.

When you create a logo design, you are branding. When you develop the communication style of your brand, you are doing branding.
